Is the wetness or urine on the skin intolerable for my baby?Updated a month ago

Indeed, it's normal for the inner diaper to be wet - and we've intentionally designed it that way. While disposable diapers feel dry all the time due to their super absorbers, cloth diapers are a natural product. However, this is not a problem; on the contrary, it’s even good!

1. The diaper feels less wet to the baby than to you after you've taken it off. As long as the baby is wearing the diaper, it - even when wet - has the body's temperature. As soon as you take it off, it cools down and feels unpleasantly wet.

2. A certain feeling of wetness is good for the child's development. Why? It allows the baby to feel what happens when it wets itself. This establishes the connection between action and result - and so it can gain an (unconscious) understanding for it.

With disposable diapers, the opposite happens: They pretend to the child to be dry all the time. This could lead, among other things, to children being potty trained a year later today than about 10 years ago. The super absorbers have simply gotten better and better. Ultimately, this can even have health consequences, according to some studies (see studies below).

We have not yet experienced intolerance to wetness. In fact, urine contains urea, a urea that moisturizes and thus ensures that the skin does not dry out. Therefore, you do not need a moisturizing ointment when using Judes. In disposable diapers, however, the super absorbers can cause the skin to dry out - that's why it is common practice to lather the disposable diaper butt with a salve.

If the wetness still bothers you, you could shorten the diaper-changing interval. In addition, it is possible to insert a booster. With this booster, the Judes inner diaper is even more absorbent. There are cloth diaper providers who claim that the booster should be made of plastic so that the diaper does not feel wet. As described, we believe (and have experienced) that this is not the case. Since plastic on the skin is not healthy, we completely refrain from using plastic in Judes boosters - they are made of 100% organic cotton.
