Our child wiggles, turns, and twists during diaper changesUpdated 2 months ago

We celebrate and rejoice when our baby turns over on their own for the first time, starts to crawl or attempts to stand and walk! The increasing joy of mobility is a welcomed progress in baby's development, but at the same time, it makes diaper changing a bit more challenging.

Here's how a Judes customer solved the problem: "Our daughter is 13 months old and does not like to lie down for diaper changes. So, it's always a bit of an effort to put the diaper on her while she's standing. With disposable diapers, we always had to use pull-up diapers. But actually, with some patience and distraction, we even manage to put on your Judes while she's standing!"

There are a few hacks that can make diaper changing while standing simple for you and your baby, which we have tested and summarized here for you:

1. Support: To change your child's diaper while they're standing, you'll need both hands and ideally some support through your knee and thigh. So: Your baby needs a stable stance. This works best when they can hold onto something, like the back of a sofa or a chair.

2. Distraction: Chairs and sofas not only serve as useful standing aids but also as platforms for entertainment! Here you can place objects with which your baby can occupy themselves, get distracted - and therefore move less - and which motivate them to maintain the upright standing position. For us, this works wonders with a lip balm - which can be opened and closed ooooh so fascinatingly 😉 -, a jingling bunch of keys, or mom's locked phone.

3. Full-body effort: The best full-body workout? Parenthood! When changing diapers while standing, a full-body effort is required - this way, the process goes twice as fast! If you squat behind your baby to put on the Judes, it's super helpful if you use a knee or thigh to keep the back part of the diaper fixed on the baby's bottom. Then you have a free hand for the velcro at the front!

4. Switching sides: Speaking of velcro: It's really beneficial when changing diapers while standing! This way, you can quickly secure the Judes on one side and then the other at the front, so the diaper stays in place. Then you can adjust until the perfect fit is achieved. This doesn't work so well with the adhesive strips of disposable diapers.

5. Teamwork: Especially older children can wonderfully assist in diaper changing while standing - this way, they're also occupied and distracted from squirming. For example, they can hold the front flaps of the diaper while you secure the back part on the bottom. Teamwork makes a dream work!
